Which company was created by the merger of Thomson and Reuters, completed in 2008?

The story behind the answer

Thomson Reuters was created when The Thomson Corporation and Reuters Group combined in a transaction completed in 2008.

The deal brought together two influential providers of business, financial, legal, tax, and news information. Canada-based Thomson had built a large information-services business, while Reuters was internationally known for financial data and journalism. Thomson announced its agreement to acquire Reuters in 2007, and the combination was completed on 17 April 2008.

The resulting company was named Thomson Reuters and became one of the world’s major providers of professional information. Its customers included financial institutions, law firms, governments, accountants, and media organizations.

The dates can cause confusion: the agreement was announced in 2007, but the merger was completed in 2008. The company is also distinct from Thomson Corporation’s later corporate history and from Reuters News, which remains a major news brand.
