Alphabet reached a $2 trillion market capitalization in November 2021 after becoming known as Google’s parent.
Alphabet briefly passed the $2 trillion threshold on November 8, 2021. The company owns Google, whose search engine, advertising platforms, Android operating system, and YouTube account for most of Alphabet’s business.
Alphabet was created in 2015 during a corporate restructuring led by Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google became a subsidiary, while Alphabet became the publicly traded parent company.
The company’s market capitalization is based on its publicly traded shares, including different classes of Alphabet stock. Its valuation has moved above and below major round numbers as technology shares and advertising expectations changed.
