Apple reached a $2 trillion market capitalization in August 2020, shortly after becoming the first company to reach $1 trillion.
Apple’s valuation doubled as investors continued to price in the strength of its hardware ecosystem and its growing services business. Services include the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV+, and payments-related products. These recurring and digital revenues helped diversify the company beyond device sales.
Apple crossed the $2 trillion threshold on August 19, 2020, based on its stock-market value. The milestone came during a year of major market volatility caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, making the achievement especially notable.
The company’s share count and stock splits matter when comparing historical prices. Apple completed a four-for-one stock split in 2020, but a split changes the number and price of shares rather than the underlying market capitalization. Apple later reached $3 trillion in 2022.
