ASML's headquarters are located in the Netherlands.
ASML was founded in 1984 as a joint venture between Philips and ASM International. Its headquarters are in Veldhoven, in the province of North Brabant. The company designs and manufactures advanced lithography systems used by semiconductor manufacturers to print microscopic patterns onto silicon wafers.
ASML became especially important through its extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, lithography technology. These machines help chipmakers produce some of the most advanced processors and memory chips. ASML is headquartered in the Netherlands but operates internationally, with major research, manufacturing and customer-support sites in Europe, Asia and the United States.
The company is sometimes mistaken for a chip manufacturer. It does not primarily design consumer processors or make finished semiconductors; it builds the highly specialized equipment used by companies such as TSMC, Samsung and Intel to manufacture them.
