Viz Media publishes the Splatoon manga in English in North America.
The original manga is a Japanese adaptation of Nintendo’s Splatoon games, illustrated by Sankichi Hinodeya and serialized through Shogakukan’s CoroCoro Comic. Viz Media acquired the North American licensing rights in 2017 and released the English edition beginning in December of that year.
Viz’s edition covers the manga’s Blue Team adventures, including the battles of Goggles, Headphones, Bobble Hat, and Specs. The publisher also brought the related Splatoon: Squid Kids Comedy Show series to North American readers, making Viz the name most closely associated with the franchise’s English-language manga releases in the region.
Readers sometimes confuse Viz Media with the Japanese publisher Shogakukan. Shogakukan publishes the original Japanese manga, while Viz handles the English North American edition. The later Splatoon 3: Splatlands storyline was likewise published by Viz in the United States, with its first U.S. volume released in 2024.
