Ubisoft published the original Assassin's Creed video game in 2007.
The game was developed primarily by Ubisoft Montreal, with support from several other Ubisoft studios. It introduced players to Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, a medieval Assassin operating during the Third Crusade, while also establishing the series' science-fiction framing device involving the Animus.
Ubisoft is a French video-game company founded in 1986 by the Guillemot family. Its publishing role is sometimes confused with development: Ubisoft Montreal created much of the game, but Ubisoft was the publisher responsible for releasing it commercially.
The original game launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2007, followed by a Windows release in 2008. Its success led to Assassin's Creed II and a long-running multimedia franchise.
