Which company published the 1998 South Park first-person shooter?

The story behind the answer

Acclaim Entertainment published the 1998 South Park first-person shooter. The game was the first major video-game adaptation of Comedy Central’s animated series and launched first on the Nintendo 64 in North America in December 1998.

Iguana Entertainment developed the game using a modified version of the engine from Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, another Acclaim-published title. Players controlled Stan, Kyle, Cartman, or Kenny in a first-person campaign featuring South Park characters, aliens, mutant turkeys, and other enemies.

The game is often confused with later South Park releases because Acclaim also published Chef’s Luv Shack in 1999 and South Park Rally in 2000. The first-person shooter’s versions for Windows and PlayStation arrived in 1999, and those ports generally received harsher reviews than the Nintendo 64 edition.

Acclaim’s South Park games were commercially successful despite mixed critical reactions. The Nintendo 64 version had shipped nearly one million copies by June 1999, helping establish Acclaim as the franchise’s early game publisher before later publishers took over the series.
