Alphabet is the parent company that owns Google and uses GOOGL as one of its Nasdaq stock tickers.
Alphabet was created in 2015 through a corporate restructuring that placed Google and several other businesses under a new holding company. Google remains Alphabet’s largest and best-known subsidiary, operating search, YouTube, Android, and many advertising products.
Alphabet has two widely traded share classes associated with the symbols GOOGL and GOOG. GOOGL shares generally carry voting rights, while GOOG shares generally do not, so the two tickers represent different classes of Alphabet stock rather than separate companies.
Alphabet ranks among the world’s most valuable companies because of its global advertising business, cloud-computing operations, software platforms, and investments in artificial intelligence. Its headquarters are in Mountain View, California.
