Geely owns the electric-vehicle brand Polestar as a major shareholder.
Polestar is an electric-car company that developed from a performance-car partnership associated with Volvo. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, usually called Geely, is a major owner of both Polestar and Volvo Cars, creating a corporate relationship among the brands.
Polestar became a separately positioned electric-vehicle brand, with models such as the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3. Its vehicles are marketed internationally and are distinct from Geely’s own consumer vehicle brands.
This ownership question can be confusing because Volvo Cars has also held a major stake in Polestar, while Geely is the wider Chinese automotive group. Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen are major electric-vehicle competitors but do not own Polestar.
