Alphabet is the company that owns Google and uses the stock-market ticker GOOGL.
Google reorganized under a new parent company called Alphabet Inc. in 2015. The restructuring separated Google’s main internet products from several other businesses and experimental projects while leaving Google as Alphabet’s largest subsidiary.
Google continues to include products such as Search, YouTube, Android, and Google Cloud. Alphabet’s other activities have included autonomous-vehicle research through Waymo and life-sciences projects associated with Verily.
Alphabet has remained among the world’s largest listed companies by market capitalization. Its Class A shares trade under GOOGL and carry one vote per share, while its Class C shares trade under GOOG and generally carry no voting rights. The two tickers are therefore related but are not identical securities.
