Alphabet owns Google and has its headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Alphabet Inc. became Google's parent company in 2015 through a corporate reorganization. Google remained the central operating business, covering search, advertising, YouTube, Android, Chrome, and cloud computing, while Alphabet provided a broader structure for other businesses and research projects.
The reorganization separated Google's main internet products from ventures such as Waymo and other initiatives. Sundar Pichai became Google's chief executive in 2015 and later became Alphabet's CEO in 2019, succeeding Larry Page.
Alphabet frequently appears near the top of global market-capitalization rankings because advertising and cloud businesses generate substantial scale. Rankings are not permanent: share prices move every trading day, and companies can exchange positions without any change to their legal identity.
