Apple owned the first U.S. stock to close above a $3 trillion market capitalization, achieving that closing milestone in January 2022.
Apple first touched the $3 trillion level during trading on January 3, 2022, but its shares later slipped below the threshold before the close. It subsequently achieved a closing valuation above $3 trillion in 2023, making the distinction between an intraday record and a closing record important.
The company’s market value reflected the combined valuation of all Apple shares. It was supported by the iPhone, Mac computers, iPad tablets, wearables, and services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, and the App Store.
Market capitalization is not the same as enterprise value, which also considers debt and cash. It is also different from revenue, profit, or the company’s physical assets.
