Nvidia overtook Microsoft and Apple to become the world’s most valuable publicly traded company in June 2024.
Nvidia reached the top position on June 18, 2024, after a sustained surge in its share price. Investors were responding mainly to demand for its data-center chips, which power artificial-intelligence systems and large-scale cloud computing.
The company’s leadership in graphics processing units gave it a major position in accelerated computing. Its software ecosystem, especially CUDA, also made Nvidia hardware deeply integrated into many AI and scientific-computing workflows.
This ranking concerns publicly traded companies and market capitalization. It does not mean Nvidia was the world’s largest company by revenue, workforce, physical assets, or annual profit; those measures produce different rankings.
