Walmart operates the Walmart retail chain and was founded by Sam Walton in 1962.
Walton opened the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas, on July 2, 1962. The business expanded by emphasizing low prices, efficient distribution, and locations serving smaller communities as well as large metropolitan areas.
Walmart later became one of the world’s largest retailers, operating stores, clubs, and e-commerce businesses in numerous countries. Its U.S. operations include supercenters, discount stores, and neighborhood markets, while Sam’s Club operates as its membership-warehouse division.
The company is often confused with Sam’s Club, which is not a separate unrelated corporation. Sam’s Club is a Walmart division. Walmart is also distinct from the similarly named online marketplace companies that operate in other countries.
