Which company operates the Chrome web browser?

The story behind the answer

Google operates the Chrome web browser.

Google Chrome was first released in 2008 as a desktop web browser. Google built it around the open-source Chromium project, while Chrome adds Google-controlled features and services. The browser later expanded to Android, iOS, and other platforms, becoming one of the most widely used browsers in the world.

Google is part of Alphabet, a technology parent company that has ranked among the world’s largest public corporations by market capitalization. Chrome is sometimes confused with Chromium. Chromium is the open-source browser project and codebase; Google Chrome is Google’s branded browser built from that foundation. Chrome also uses Google’s Blink browser engine, which originated as a fork of WebKit.
