Which company operates the AWS cloud-computing platform and the Prime subscription service?

The story behind the answer

Amazon operates AWS and the Prime subscription service.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 as an online bookstore. The company expanded into many categories, becoming a large e-commerce marketplace as well as a provider of devices, entertainment, logistics, and cloud infrastructure. Amazon Web Services, usually called AWS, launched in 2006 and sells computing, storage, database, and other services to organizations.

Amazon Prime began in 2005 as a subscription offering centered on shipping benefits. It later added video streaming, music, reading, gaming, and other features, with the exact benefits varying by country. AWS and Prime are sometimes mistaken for separate companies, but both are businesses of Amazon.com, Inc.

Amazon’s shares trade on Nasdaq under AMZN. Its retail operations include products sold directly by Amazon and products offered by independent marketplace sellers, another distinction that is often overlooked when describing the company’s sales.
