Alphabet, the parent company of Google, became the fourth U.S. company to surpass a $1 trillion market capitalization.
Alphabet crossed the milestone in January 2020. It followed Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon among U.S. companies reaching the trillion-dollar level. Google's advertising business was the principal source of revenue, while cloud computing, YouTube, and other projects broadened the group.
Alphabet was created in 2015 through a corporate restructuring of Google. Larry Page became Alphabet's chief executive, while Sundar Pichai led Google; Pichai later became Alphabet's CEO in 2019.
A frequent error is calling Alphabet itself “Google.” Google is Alphabet's largest subsidiary and includes products such as Search, YouTube, Android, and Google Cloud, but the publicly traded parent is Alphabet.
