Which company, one of the world’s largest by market cap, was co-founded by Steve Jobs in 1976?

The story behind the answer

Apple, one of the world’s largest companies by market capitalization, was co-founded by Steve Jobs in 1976.

Jobs founded Apple with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in Los Altos, California. The company’s first product, the Apple I, was a single-board computer designed primarily by Wozniak. Apple later became a major personal-computer company through the Apple II and Macintosh.

The company’s growth expanded far beyond computers. The iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and services such as the App Store created several large revenue streams. The iPhone, introduced in 2007, became especially important to Apple’s financial scale and global brand.

A common mix-up is the founding date: Apple was incorporated in January 1977, after the partnership began in 1976. Ronald Wayne also left very early, while Jobs and Wozniak remained the best-known founding figures.
