Which company manufactures the Ford Mustang?

The story behind the answer

Ford Motor Company manufactures the Ford Mustang.

Introduced in 1964, the Mustang was created as a sporty, relatively affordable car built from familiar Ford components. Its long-hood, short-deck design helped establish the “pony car” category, inspiring competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger.

The Mustang was originally expected to sell about 100,000 units per year, but demand greatly exceeded expectations. Nearly 1.3 million first-generation Mustangs were produced in the model’s first two years. The car has remained in continuous production since 1964, making it one of Ford’s longest-running nameplates.

A common mix-up is confusing Ford with companies associated with special Mustang versions. Shelby American, for example, developed famous high-performance Shelby Mustangs, but the Mustang itself is a Ford model. Ford has produced the car through multiple generations, including coupe, convertible, fastback, EcoBoost, GT, Mach 1, and Dark Horse variants.
