Salesforce makes the Salesforce cloud customer-relationship platform and trades under the symbol CRM.
Salesforce was founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, and Frank Dominguez. It helped popularize software as a service, in which customers use applications over the internet instead of installing and maintaining traditional on-premises software.
Its platform provides tools for sales, customer service, marketing, commerce, analytics, and application development. The company has expanded through acquisitions, including Tableau and Slack, adding data visualization and workplace collaboration to its product ecosystem.
CRM is both Salesforce's stock ticker and an abbreviation for customer relationship management. That overlap can cause confusion: CRM describes a category of business software, while CRM on the New York Stock Exchange identifies Salesforce's publicly traded shares.
