Which company makes the PlayStation console and bought Bungie, the original creator of Halo?

The story behind the answer

Sony makes the PlayStation console and bought Bungie, the original creator of Halo.

Sony was founded in Tokyo in 1946 as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. It adopted the name Sony in 1958, combining the Latin word sonus with a youthful term associated with young people. The company became a global electronics, entertainment, and financial-services group.

Sony Computer Entertainment launched the original PlayStation in Japan in 1994. PlayStation later became one of the best-known video-game brands, with consoles, software, online services, and accessories forming Sony's interactive-entertainment business.

Sony completed its acquisition of Bungie in 2022. Bungie had developed Halo before becoming independent from Microsoft, so Halo is not a Sony-owned franchise simply because Sony owns Bungie. The distinction matters: Bungie retained creative independence under the deal, while Sony gained a major live-service development studio.
