Apple launched the first iPhone in 2007 and later became a top market-cap leader.
Apple introduced the original iPhone on January 9, 2007, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. It combined a mobile phone, an iPod, and an internet communicator in one touchscreen device, according to Steve Jobs’s presentation.
The first iPhone went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007. It used a multi-touch interface and avoided the physical keyboards common on many smartphones of the period. The App Store arrived in 2008, creating a much larger software ecosystem around the device.
The iPhone became Apple’s most important product line and helped drive services, accessories, and customer loyalty. Its commercial success contributed substantially to Apple’s rise among the world’s largest companies by market capitalization.
