Which company is Warren Buffett’s investment conglomerate, founded in its modern form in 1965?
Answer
Berkshire Hathaway
Answer
Berkshire Hathaway
Berkshire Hathaway is Warren Buffett’s investment conglomerate, founded in its modern form in 1965.
Berkshire Hathaway originated as a textile manufacturer formed through the 1955 merger of Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and the Hathaway Manufacturing Company. Warren Buffett began buying its shares in the 1960s and took control in 1965, when the modern investment-conglomerate phase began.
Buffett and longtime partner Charlie Munger redirected Berkshire away from textiles and toward insurance, investments, and ownership of operating businesses. Insurance subsidiaries such as GEICO and General Re provide “float,” or premiums held before claims are paid, which Berkshire can invest.
Berkshire is unusual among the largest public companies because it has historically paid no regular dividend. Its market value is also reported through two main share classes, Class A and Class B, rather than a single ordinary share class.
