Saudi Aramco was valued at more than $2 trillion soon after its 2019 stock-market debut.
Saudi Aramco, formally the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, began trading on the Saudi Exchange in December 2019. Its initial public offering raised about $25.6 billion, making it the largest IPO at that time. On the second trading day, its share price reached the level that implied a valuation above $2 trillion.
The company is the national oil company of Saudi Arabia and operates some of the world’s largest petroleum reserves and production systems. Its assets include major fields such as Ghawar and extensive refining, chemicals, pipelines, and export operations. Saudi Aramco’s scale gives it a central role in the Saudi economy and global energy markets.
The company is sometimes compared directly with technology giants by market capitalization, but the businesses differ substantially. Aramco’s valuation depends heavily on oil prices, production expectations, reserves, and energy policy, whereas technology-company valuations are more closely tied to software, devices, advertising, or data-center growth.
