ASML is the world’s largest maker of lithography machines for semiconductor production.
ASML Holding is a Dutch company that develops and manufactures lithography systems used to print extremely small patterns onto semiconductor wafers. Its machines are essential tools in advanced chip manufacturing, making ASML one of the most strategically important and valuable companies in Europe.
ASML is especially known for extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, lithography. EUV systems use light with a wavelength of 13.5 nanometers and support the production of many leading-edge chips. ASML is currently the only commercial supplier of EUV lithography systems, although its machines depend on components from a large international network of suppliers.
ASML does not manufacture most of the chips found in phones or servers. TSMC, Samsung, and Intel operate fabrication plants; ASML supplies specialized equipment that those manufacturers use in their production processes.
