LVMH is the parent company of Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Bulgari and is among Europe’s largest companies by market capitalization.
LVMH stands for Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. The group was formed in 1987 through the merger of fashion house Louis Vuitton with drinks company Moët Hennessy. It later expanded into a broad portfolio of luxury brands.
Its businesses span fashion and leather goods, wines and spirits, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, and selective retailing. The group owns brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Moët & Chandon, and Hennessy.
LVMH is often confused with Kering, another major French luxury group that owns brands such as Gucci and Saint Laurent. LVMH’s market value is tied to the performance of its many maisons, but each brand is not separately listed on the stock market.
