Alphabet is the parent company of Google and was created in 2015.
Google reorganized under a new holding company called Alphabet Inc. in October 2015. Under the structure, Google remained the central operating company, while other businesses and projects could operate as separate Alphabet units.
The reorganization did not mean that Google disappeared. Google Search, YouTube, Android, and advertising remained associated with Google, while Alphabet provided the broader corporate framework. The change also helped distinguish Google’s core internet businesses from longer-term ventures.
Alphabet became one of the world’s largest companies by market capitalization because of Google’s dominant online advertising business and the global reach of its products. Its share classes include publicly traded Class A and Class C stock, while Class B shares carry special voting rights.
