Which company is the parent corporation of the Berkshire Hathaway Energy utility business?

The story behind the answer

Berkshire Hathaway is the parent corporation of the Berkshire Hathaway Energy utility business.

Berkshire Hathaway is a diversified American holding company led for decades by investor Warren Buffett. Its businesses span insurance, rail transportation, utilities and energy, manufacturing, retail and investments. Berkshire Hathaway Energy operates regulated electric and gas utilities and owns renewable-energy and natural-gas infrastructure interests.

The company’s roots are in textile manufacturing, but Buffett and his investment partners transformed it into a holding company. Its best-known insurance businesses include GEICO and reinsurance operations, while BNSF Railway is another major subsidiary. Berkshire is unusual among giant listed companies because it has not paid a regular cash dividend since 1967, preferring to reinvest capital. It has two major listed share classes: Class A shares, which have the ticker BRK.A, and more accessible Class B shares, ticker BRK.B.
