Berkshire Hathaway is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BRK.A and is known for an exceptionally high share price.
Berkshire Hathaway’s Class A shares trade under BRK.A, while its lower-priced Class B shares trade under BRK.B. The company’s Class A stock has historically had one of the highest prices per individual share on a major exchange because Berkshire has never carried out a conventional stock split for that class.
Warren Buffett has led Berkshire since 1965, turning a struggling textile business into a diversified holding company. Its businesses and investments have included insurance, railroads, utilities, energy, manufacturing, and large publicly traded equity positions.
Share price and market capitalization are different measurements. A high per-share price does not automatically make a company the world’s most valuable; market cap depends on both price and the number of shares outstanding.
