Alphabet is led by CEO Sundar Pichai, who became its chief executive in 2019.
Pichai joined Google in 2004 and worked on products including the Google Chrome browser and Chrome OS. He became Google’s chief executive in 2015, when Google’s founders created Alphabet as a new holding company for Google and several other businesses.
In December 2019, Pichai became CEO of Alphabet as well as Google. Larry Page, Alphabet’s previous chief executive, and Sergey Brin, its president, stepped away from their executive roles while remaining involved as board members for a period.
Alphabet is often mistaken for Google because Google is its largest and best-known subsidiary. Alphabet’s corporate structure also includes businesses and projects outside Google’s core search, advertising, cloud, and consumer-hardware operations.
