Which company introduced the video-conferencing platform Zoom in 2013?

The story behind the answer

Zoom Video Communications introduced its Zoom video-conferencing platform in 2013.

Eric Yuan founded Zoom after previously working on WebEx, a company Cisco acquired in 2007. Zoom was designed to provide reliable video meetings across computers and mobile devices, with an emphasis on ease of use and performance.

The service became much more widely known during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when schools, businesses, governments, and families moved many activities online. “Zoom” became a common verb for joining a video meeting, although the company also offers chat, phone, webinars, and other collaboration products.

A common mix-up is confusing Zoom with WebEx because Yuan worked at Cisco after the WebEx acquisition. They are separate products and companies, even though both are major video-communication services.
