Apple had the world’s highest market capitalization at the end of 2023.
Apple finished 2023 as the most valuable publicly traded company, with a market value of roughly $3 trillion. Its position reflected the continuing strength of the iPhone ecosystem, services such as the App Store and iCloud, and investor confidence in the company’s brand and profitability.
Market-cap rankings are snapshots rather than permanent titles. Microsoft briefly overtook Apple during 2024, and other companies have led the ranking at different times. A company’s position can change even when its underlying business has not changed dramatically, because share prices move every trading day.
The end-of-year wording is important: it refers to the closing valuation on the final trading day of 2023. It does not mean Apple was the largest company by annual revenue, employee count or total assets.
