Nvidia reached a $1 trillion market capitalization in 2023.
Nvidia crossed the $1 trillion valuation threshold in May 2023 after investors responded to soaring demand for its graphics processors and data-center technology. The company’s chips became central to training and running artificial-intelligence systems, helping drive a dramatic rise in its share price.
Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. It initially became known for graphics processing units used in computer games, but its CUDA software platform also made its hardware useful for scientific computing and machine learning.
Market capitalization measures investors’ expectations as well as current business results. Nvidia’s valuation therefore reflected anticipated growth in AI infrastructure, not simply the value of chips already sold. Its stock remains especially sensitive to technology demand and expectations.
