Apple was the first company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization during intraday trading.
Apple briefly crossed the $3 trillion mark on January 3, 2022, as its share price reached the level required by the company’s outstanding share count. The valuation later moved below that threshold before the trading session ended.
This distinction matters because financial reports often separate an intraday milestone from a closing milestone. Apple later became the first company to close a regular trading session above $3 trillion, in June 2023.
Apple’s valuation reflected the scale of its iPhone business, its services division, and investor expectations for future products. Market capitalization is not the same as cash on hand or annual sales; it is the market value of all outstanding shares.
