Apple first crossed a $3 trillion market capitalization on January 3, 2022.
The threshold was reached briefly during intraday trading when Apple’s share price rose above the level required for its total equity value to equal $3 trillion. Apple had already set the $1 trillion and $2 trillion milestones, making the $3 trillion achievement another landmark in public-company valuation.
A market-cap milestone is not the same as a year-end valuation. The share price can move above or below a threshold within minutes, and changes in the number of shares can also affect the calculation. Apple’s value later moved below $3 trillion before the company crossed it again in 2023.
Microsoft and Nvidia have also reached the $3 trillion range. Those companies are sometimes named in answers because rankings change frequently, but Apple was the first to cross that particular mark.
