Which company did Warren Buffett acquire control of in 1965 and turn into a major conglomerate?

The story behind the answer

Warren Buffett acquired control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 and turned it into a major conglomerate.

Berkshire Hathaway began as a textile manufacturing company formed through the 1955 merger of Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and Hathaway Manufacturing Company. Buffett initially bought shares because he believed the stock was undervalued, then took control after a dispute with management over the company’s share-buyback price.

Under Buffett’s leadership, Berkshire moved away from textiles and built a diversified group of businesses. Its holdings have included insurance operations, railroads, utilities, energy companies, manufacturers, retailers, and large portfolios of publicly traded shares.

Berkshire is unusual among giant public companies because its Class A shares have never undergone a split and can trade at extremely high individual prices. That share price is not the same as market capitalization, which measures the value of all outstanding shares together.
