Nvidia developed the GeForce graphics-processing brand and trades publicly under the ticker NVDA.
Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. The company first became widely known for graphics processing units designed for personal computers and video games. Its GeForce brand launched in 1999, and Nvidia later expanded into professional visualization, automotive computing, and data-center processors.
The same parallel-processing capabilities that made GPUs useful for graphics also made them valuable for machine learning and artificial intelligence. Demand for data-center hardware helped Nvidia become one of the world's largest companies by market capitalization. Nvidia is sometimes confused with a computer manufacturer because its name appears on many graphics cards, but it primarily designs processors and platforms; other companies manufacture or assemble many finished cards. The ticker NVDA identifies Nvidia shares on the Nasdaq.
