Which company developed the first Pokémon games?
Answer
Game Freak
Answer
Game Freak
Game Freak developed the first Pokémon games. The company created Pocket Monsters Red and Green for Nintendo’s Game Boy.
Game Freak began as a self-published video-game magazine created by Satoshi Tajiri. Tajiri and illustrator Ken Sugimori later turned the name into a development company. The studio officially incorporated in 1989 and eventually began working with Nintendo on Pokémon.
Nintendo published the original games and supplied the Game Boy platform, but Game Freak handled the game’s development. Creatures also became an important partner, particularly in the wider Pokémon business and later trading-card work. These companies are often mentioned together, but they had different roles.
Game Freak has continued to develop the core Pokémon role-playing games across Nintendo handhelds and consoles. Other companies have made spin-offs, remakes, mobile games, and related projects, but Game Freak remains most closely associated with the main series.
