Which company developed Tetris 99?
Answer
Arika
Answer
Arika
Arika developed Tetris 99.
Released for Nintendo Switch in 2019, Tetris 99 reworked the traditional puzzle formula as a battle royale. Up to 99 players compete simultaneously, sending troublesome garbage lines to opponents while trying to keep their own boards from overflowing. The last surviving player wins, making targeting and rapid line-clearing as important as careful piece placement.
Nintendo published the game and distributed it digitally to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. That publisher-developer split explains a common mix-up: Nintendo supplied the platform, service, and publishing role, but Arika was the company responsible for development. Resonair and Monstars are associated with Tetris Effect, while Hudson Soft worked on other classic games.
Arika had substantial Tetris experience before 99. The company developed the arcade-focused Tetris: The Grand Master series, known for demanding speed and precision. Tetris 99 translated that expertise into a mass online format and later inspired related large-player-count games such as Pac-Man 99.
