Which company developed Rocket League?
Answer
Psyonix
Answer
Psyonix
Psyonix developed Rocket League. The San Diego-based studio also published the game's original digital releases and built the title from its earlier car-soccer project, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.
Psyonix began formal development of Rocket League around 2013. The team used feedback from Battle-Cars to make the sequel more accessible, improve its physics and presentation, and strengthen online matchmaking. Rocket League launched in 2015 and quickly became much more successful than its predecessor.
The company remained closely associated with the game as it added new arenas, modes, cross-platform features, and esports support. In 2019, Epic Games announced an agreement to acquire Psyonix; the acquisition was completed later that year. Epic subsequently helped distribute Rocket League, and the game became free-to-play in 2020, but Psyonix remained the developer.
Blizzard and Valve are unrelated to Rocket League's development. Epic Games became the parent company, which explains why some players confuse it with the developer. The studio responsible for creating the game is still Psyonix.
