Which company developed Fortnite?

Epic Games developed Fortnite. The company created Fortnite as an online game that began with the cooperative survival experience Fortnite: Save the World before expanding the platform with Battle Royale and other modes.

Fortnite’s development started from an Epic Games concept around 2011. The original idea combined construction and resource gathering with shooter-style combat, eventually producing a player-versus-environment game in which teams built defenses against monsters. Epic released Save the World in paid early access in July 2017.

The Battle Royale mode was developed rapidly in 2017 after the popularity of games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Epic released it separately as a free-to-play mode on September 26, 2017, and it quickly became the part of Fortnite most associated with the brand. Rockstar Games, Ubisoft, and Valve are also major game companies, but none developed Fortnite. Some individual Fortnite modes have involved additional studios, yet Epic remains the game’s principal developer.
