Niantic developed and published Pokémon Go.
Pokémon Go launched in 2016 for iOS and Android devices. It uses GPS, mapping data, and augmented-reality features to let players find, capture, train, and battle Pokémon in real-world locations.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company partnered with Niantic, which had already developed location-based technology through games such as Ingress. That partnership helped connect Pokémon’s collecting concept with walking, exploration, and real-world landmarks.
The game is sometimes described as a Nintendo-developed title because Nintendo was one of its major partners and investors. However, Niantic is credited as both developer and publisher. Pokémon Go initially launched with approximately 150 species and later expanded through regular updates.
