Valve created the virtual-reality game Half-Life: Alyx, released in 2020.
Half-Life: Alyx is a first-person VR game set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Players control Alyx Vance as she fights the Combine in and around City 17. Valve designed the game for room-scale interaction, including object handling, weapon use, environmental puzzles, and movement through a virtual world.
The game launched for Windows on March 23, 2020, and supported SteamVR-compatible headsets. Valve developed it as a major return to the Half-Life universe after years without a new full-length installment in the series.
Half-Life: Alyx is sometimes confused with Half-Life 2 because both feature City 17 and the Combine. Alyx is a separate prequel story, and its title identifies Alyx Vance as the central playable character. The game was also released for Linux later in 2020.
