Answer
1080 × 1200 pixels
The consumer Oculus Rift displayed 1080 × 1200 pixels for each eye.
The consumer Rift, also known as the Rift CV1, was Oculus VR’s first commercially released consumer headset. It became available in 2016 and used two OLED displays, one assigned to each eye. Each display had a resolution of 1080 by 1200 pixels, producing a combined nominal panel resolution of 2160 by 1200 pixels across both eyes.
The per-eye figure matters because VR headsets present separate images to the left and right eyes to create stereoscopic depth. It should not be confused with the headset’s total horizontal resolution, field of view, or the rendered resolution supplied by a computer. Software and graphics settings could also affect the final image seen through the lenses.
The Rift CV1 required a connected computer and external sensors for its original room-scale tracking setup. Later Oculus and Meta headsets changed the hardware approach, adding features such as inside-out tracking and higher-resolution displays. Those later models are therefore not appropriate sources for the original Rift’s specification.
