Apple became the first company in the S&P 500 to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization during intraday trading on January 3, 2022. The milestone reflected the company’s enormous share count multiplied by a stock price that briefly reached the required level during the session.
The S&P 500 is a widely followed index of large U.S. companies, although it is not simply the 500 largest companies by market value.
