Which company created the iPhone?

The story behind the answer

Apple created the iPhone. The company developed and markets the device, while much of its physical manufacturing is carried out by contract manufacturers.

Apple announced the first-generation iPhone on January 9, 2007, at Macworld in San Francisco. Steve Jobs presented it as a combination of a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, and an internet communicator. It went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007, and helped establish the touchscreen, app-focused smartphone format that is now common.

The iPhone was the result of a secret Apple project that began in the mid-2000s. Apple worked with Cingular Wireless, later renamed AT&T Mobility, on the original launch. Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung have all made important mobile phones, but none created the iPhone. Samsung is instead a major rival that produces Galaxy smartphones running Android.
