Rowntree’s created the Aero chocolate bar, known for its bubbly center.
The company launched Aero in the United Kingdom in 1935. Its defining feature is aerated chocolate: gas bubbles are incorporated into the chocolate, creating a light, fragile structure that melts readily in the mouth.
Nestlé later acquired Rowntree’s, so Aero is now associated with Nestlé in many markets. This ownership history explains why some modern wrappers identify Nestlé rather than Rowntree’s, even though Rowntree’s developed the original bar.
Aero is often compared with other aerated chocolate products, but its name and branding are distinct. The bubbles are not a sign that the chocolate has spoiled; they are an intentional part of the manufacturing process and eating experience.
