Which company created the AWS cloud-computing business?

The story behind the answer

Amazon created the AWS cloud-computing business.

Amazon Web Services, usually called AWS, began offering services publicly in 2006. It provides computing power, storage, databases, networking, and other on-demand services over the internet.

Amazon originally developed much of the underlying infrastructure to support its retail operations. Turning that capability into a commercial platform created a major business serving startups, governments, media companies, and large enterprises.

Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and later expanded into a broad e-commerce and technology company. AWS is a common point of confusion because it operates alongside Amazon's retail business, but both belong to the same public company whose market capitalization is calculated using Amazon shares.
