Apple briefly became the world’s most valuable public company in January 2022 after passing a $3 trillion market capitalization.
During trading on January 3, 2022, Apple’s share price rose enough to push its market value above $3 trillion. The company then fell back below that level before the session ended, so this was an intraday achievement rather than a closing-market record.
Apple’s market capitalization has repeatedly moved ahead of other giant companies because its share count, share price, and investor expectations combine to produce a very large equity value. Microsoft and Saudi Aramco have also held the top position at different times.
The phrase “most valuable company” normally refers to market capitalization among publicly traded companies. It does not necessarily mean the company has the highest revenue, the greatest profits, or the most physical assets.
