Nvidia briefly became the world’s most valuable public company after passing a $4 trillion market capitalization in 2025.
Nvidia’s rise was powered by demand for graphics processing units used in artificial-intelligence training and data centers. Its CUDA software ecosystem and partnerships with major cloud providers helped make its chips central to many AI-computing systems.
The company’s market value moved rapidly because investors were revising expectations for AI infrastructure spending. At different points, Apple and Microsoft also held the top ranking, illustrating that “world’s most valuable” is a time-sensitive market-cap comparison rather than a permanent title.
Nvidia began as a graphics-chip designer for computer games, but its technology later became important in scientific computing, machine learning, and autonomous systems. The company was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.
